Jaws Explored asks different questions: not what happened on set, but instead examining how and why this film has worked so well, for so long.

What is Jaws’ true genius? Why do we keep coming back to it again and again? And what does it tell us about ourselves?

A forensic examination by the best voices in cinema

Rather than retread familiar ground with Spielberg and the surviving cast and crew, we’re looking to experts in the film industry to take us deeper into what makes Jaws tick. We’ll be interviewing filmmakers, critics, experts, and scientists; the best minds breaking down one of the greatest films ever made.

Together, we’ll go through Jaws moment by moment, stopping to examine what makes each bit special. Directors and editors weigh in on the significance of a cut, film historians deliver vital context, while psychologists break down why we’re still afraid, even 51 years and many watches later.

The most in-depth exploration ever made

Over the course of the documentary, we’ll be diving deep into Jaws, covering a wealth of topics, including:

• Key Moments in the Movie: We take the scenes you know by heart and show you exactly what they are doing, and why they still work fifty-one years on.
• Character & Psychology: Brody the reluctant hero, Quint the Ahab, Hooper the rationalist. We dig into who these men are and what they are truly afraid of.

• Mythology: We chart where the shark sits among the great monsters of screen and legend, and the far older fear it really stands for.
• Symbolism: We examine the symbolism hiding in plain sight, and how it affects the way we experience the movie.

Moment by moment, we'll examine theme, music, performance, psychology, myth, legacy, and a director who finds greatness in calamity.

Timeline

Jaws Explored will enter into production shortly. We expect to have completed the documentary and be ready to begin shipping by August 2027.

Shipping & Fulfillment

Shipping: Shipping is charged at the point of fulfillment (when we send out Blu-rays). This will be at cost (your shipping cost will be the price we pay and we will not make profit on it). Delaying payment for shipping benefits both sides as we avoid overcharging (bad for you) and undercharging (bad for our documentary budget).

At current prices, we expect shipping prices for our Blu-ray + Book tier to be $10 for domestic (US), and $20.00 for international orders.

For our full merch tier, or any order which includes posters or a t-shirt, our expected shipping rates are $12 for domestic (US) and $25 for international orders.

Fulfillment: Our physical rewards will be manufactured and shipped from California by a trusted partner who we have previously worked with. Blu-rays are factory pressed and manufactured to the highest standard possible (the same standard as AAA releases). Our items are sent in very sturdy packaging (posters rolled, not folded) to ensure everything arrives with you safely.
